Op-ed: I don’t think I should have gotten a B+ on the midterm essay

Now that we’ve all gotten our Philosophy 201 midterm essays back, I think it’s important to tackle a serious issue: my grade. While I appreciate all the constructive feedback on the essay, I believe that I deserved better than a B+ on the assignment.

Let’s start with the basics. We were assigned a 4-5 page essay comparing and contrasting two philosophers’ opinions on perception. In selecting Plato and Aristotle, I focused on the ancient Greek debates on this very subject and did so within the word limit.

My thesis was engaging. My citations were in the proper format. My analysis of Plato’s treatment of external stimuli was exactly what the assignment required—the TA even noted that my writing was “really good” here.

I acknowledge that my argument about Aristotle’s opinion of free will ventured off topic (even if I did try to connect it back to his views on perception), but surely that shouldn’t bump my grade down so much.

When all is said and done, I think I deserved a higher grade than a B+ on the midterm. Can I get a regrade?
