DURHAM, N.C.—Mass confusion has spread around campus after several students who intended to contact Duke Chapel Headshots—a professional photography service—have instead accidentally booked services with Duke’s Chapel Headshots—a professional hitman service run by local sniper Duke Fransioli.
Maria Lozano (P ’25) addressed her frustration on her Instagram story after she accidentally scheduled an appointment with the sniper instead of the photographer. She recalled staying a full 20 minutes before realizing her mistake. “I should’ve guessed something was wrong when he insisted on taking the shot from across the quad,” Lozano said.
Regan Matsumoto (P ’27), another student who booked the wrong service, wasn’t as fortunate. “You can imagine my disappointment when I showed up to the appointment and all he did was take my picture,” he said. Now understanding what went wrong, Matsumoto is eager to try again. “I’ll be sure to get it right this time.”
But these mixups aren’t just a simple reading error—both services share similarities beyond their names.
Duke Chapel Headshots and Duke’s Chapel Headshots were both founded in 2018, charge $50 per headshot, and meet clients next to the iconic Duke Chapel. They even advertise their services the same way—by taping rows of posters to the doors of every single West Campus dorm room.
Fortunately, the two businesses have implemented a solution to the mass confusion. Duke Chapel Headshots will now only photograph its clients on the right side of the Duke Chapel, and Duke’s Chapel Headshots will snipe its clients on the left side.
Students are already appreciative of this change. “It looks very promising,” said Maryanne Delgado (T ’26). “Now students like me will never have to worry about booking the wrong service.”
**Editor’s note: We incorrectly reported that the photography service meets on the right side of Duke Chapel, while the sniper service meets on the left side. This should be switched. We extend our appreciation and deepest condolences to the family of Maryanne Delgado for informing us of this error.**
